City as a Canvas Theme Returns to Charlottesville Area Transit

Published on Charlottesville Tomorrow

Following the success of last year’s painted Trolley, Charlottesville Area Transit has once again partnered with the Tom Tom Founders Festival to showcase art in the local community.

Rather than painting a soon-to-be-decommissioned bus, CAT has wrapped a hybrid transit bus in a vibrant mural. The wrap, essentially a large removable sticker, will remain on the bus through the end of the calendar year. The hybrid bus is scheduled to be rotated on several CAT’s routes during that period.

This year’s artwork, commissioned by the Tom Tom Founders Festival, was designed by Paul “Swank” Nandee. Swank specializes in mural paintings. His artwork has been used by Gatorade, Verizon, RayBan, Powerade, Chevrolet, Converse, and Nike.

The bus will be unveiled outside the Second Street Gallery during ICU Art’s opening reception on Friday, April 1 at 5:30 PM. The Second Street Gallery is located at 115 2nd Street SE, Charlottesville, Virginia.

In addition to its appearance at the Second Street Gallery, the bus will also be part of several other outreach events including the Tom Tom Founders Festival Community Picnic in Lee Park on Sunday, April 17th.
