The 2026 Innovation Summit brought together nearly 1,000 founders, investors, policymakers, creatives, and industry leaders to explore the future of technology, entrepreneurship, investment, and policy through the lens of COURAGE. Through bold conversations, high-impact startup showcases, and visionary leadership from across Virginia and beyond, the Summit highlighted the accelerating momentum cementing Virginia’s position as a rising hub for innovation, collaboration, and courageous ideas.

From the Galant Challenge, E-Cup, to 5 innovation showcases this year’s Summit had a little something for everyone. Individual showcases included: AI + Data, Life Sciences, B2B/SaaS, Cville's Most Innovative, and Virginia’s Most Innovative

Investor Connect Track Launched
New to this year’s Summit, the Investor Connect Track created a dedicated space for founders, investors, family offices, ecosystem builders, and capital allocators to connect around the future of innovation and early-stage growth. Through curated networking, founder showcases, and investor-focused programming, the track helped foster meaningful relationships between entrepreneurs and capital sources.

Defense and Intelligence Panel Shines Light on Emerging Vertical for Central VA
One of the most important conversations at this year’s Innovation Summit centered on the growing defense and intelligence ecosystem emerging across Central Virginia. Bringing together leaders from defense, intelligence, venture capital, cybersecurity, economic development, and dual-use innovation, the session highlighted Virginia’s unique opportunity to become a national leader in next-generation defense technology and strategic innovation -- and how to act to accelerate that momentum.

The Future of Biotech and Regional Innovation Hubs
Leaders from across Virginia’s biotech, research, healthcare, and investment ecosystems explored how regional collaboration and emerging innovation hubs are shaping the future of life sciences and economic growth across the Commonwealth.

Expanded Partnership with UVA
A defining aspect of this year’s Innovation Summit was the expanded partnership with the University of Virginia, which helped deepen the Summit’s focus on cross-sector collaboration and innovation. Partnerships with UVA Health, the Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology, the Contemplative Sciences Center, the Manning Institute of Biotechnology, and UVA Innovates convened leaders throughout the mid-Atlantic to explore some of the most important opportunities shaping the future of innovation.

The LÄRABAR Founding Story and Building Companies With Intention
Lara Merriken shared the deeply personal story behind building LÄRABAR, offering insights on entrepreneurship, intentional leadership, wellness, and the courage required to build mission-driven companies.

The Luminoah Story - From a Son’s Rare Tumor Diagnosis to a Medical Breakthrough
This powerful session highlighted how one family’s response to a devastating diagnosis sparked the creation of Luminoah and a breakthrough approach to improving care and quality of life for pediatric cancer patients. At the session, Luminoah’s founder, Neal Piper, celebrated the news that the company had cleared FDA approval to fully go to market.

AI + Human Flourishing - Disruptions and Deeper Purpose
Panelists examined the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and humanity, exploring how leaders can navigate rapid technological disruption while remaining grounded in ethics, purpose, creativity, and human well-being.
