Tom Tom to Hold First Ever Youth Summit

Published on Newsplex

For the first time, the Tom Tom Founders Festival is going to hold a Youth Summit, to celebrate youth innovation.

It will be a student-planned and student-led day of talks and competition for students, educators and entrepreneurs from across Virginia.

“The Youth Summit is Tom Tom’s companion program to the Founders Summit on Friday, April 15,” commented Paul Beyer, TTFF festival director. “While the Founders Summit assembles national creators and entrepreneurs to share their founding stories, the Youth Summit is aimed at students throughout Virginia. With one exception, all the speakers and participants in the Youth Summit are under 25 years old, which provides a unique inspiration to our students who are dreaming about starting a business or creating projects that will positively impact their community.”

The speakers include Nikhil Goyal, author of “Schools on Trial: How Freedom and Creativity Can Fix Out Educational Malpractice;” LeiLei Secor, founder of Designed by Lei; Wes Bellamy, Charlottesville vice mayor and founder of Helping Young People Evolve; Daniel Willson, founder of The Pioneer; and Alyssa Dizon, founding member of HackCville.

There will also be two competitions, the Building Your Business Competition and the Building Your Community Challenge.

Students from several area schools were nominated to the Student Advisory Council, which has helped plan keynotes, competitions and outreach strategies.

The Youth Summit will take place April 14 at the Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall.
