Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced Monday more than $812,000 in matching grant funds will be awarded to 39 tourism initiatives in the state as part of Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Marketing Leverage Program.
The matching funds will reach three tourism initiatives in the Charlottesville area: $50,000 to the Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello, $25,000 to the Tom Tom Founders Festival in Charlottesville and $2,500 to Rassawek Vineyards in Columbia for its Spring Jubilee.
These grants are used to help local and regional tourism entities attract more visitors through marketing and will affect at least 153 other statewide tourism entities, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
Two years ago, tourism generated $22.4 billion in revenue, supported 217,000 jobs and provided $1.5 billion in state and local taxes, according to the release.
